2009 Spider Marching Band Staff

Mr. Mac Abercrombie - Assistant Director

Mr. Abercrombie has also been the director at Concord Middle School for nine years.  In previous seasons, he has been a member of the marching staff at South Oldham and Jeffersontown high schools in Kentucky, and A.L. Brown, Providence, and Jesse C. Carson high schools in North Carolina.

A 1994 graduate of Floyd Central High School, Mr. Abercrombie’s high school marching band placed 8th in 1990 and 6th in 1993 at the Indiana State School Music Association’s marching band championships.

Mr. Abercrombie obtained his Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Louisville where he studied with trombone with Dick Cryder, jazz trombone & improvisation with John LaBarbara and Jamey Aebersold, and served as Treasurer of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.

Currently Mr. Abercrombie is a member of the 208th Army Reserve Band in Concord, NC, and he is a founding member of the “Clarion Brass Ensemble” -- a Concord-based brass quintet that performs various styles of music for concerts, weddings, civic functions and educational events.  He and his wife, Connie, spend much of their free time chasing after their two young sons.

Mrs. Sara Fink - Hornline Instructor

Originally from Lincolnton, North Carolina; Mrs. Fink began studying music at the age of ten.  Before graduating in 2003 from Lincolnton High School, she participated with various honor bands across North Carolina on clarinet, bass clarinet, and contrabass clarinet. 

Mrs. Fink graduated cum laude from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte with a Bachelors of Music Education in December 2007.   While at UNCC Mrs. Fink studied clarinet with Eugene Kavadlo and John Sadak and horn with Lynda Pickney. She was a member of the UNC-Charlotte Chapter of the Collegiate Music Educators National Conference (CMENC), serving as President from 2005-2007. 

She performed with the UNCC Symphonic Wind Ensemble for four years, including a performance at the College Band Directors National Association Conference.   She has instructed at the CMENC middle school clinic, and at Lincolnton H.S. & M.S., Providence H.S., South Pointe H.S. (SC), and Central Cabarrus H.S.

Mrs. Fink resides in Kannapolis, with her husband, Michael, and their dogs and cats!  She have many hobbies that include but not limited to reading, gaming, quilting, fishing, NASCAR, and collecting things such as men’s neckties, costume jewelry and women’s dress hats.  

Ms. Michelle Chavarie - Colorguard Instructor

Mr. Christopher Bryan - Percussion Instructor

Originally from Pennsylvania, Mr. Bryan is a 2001 graduate of Pennridge H.S. in Perkasie, PA.  Currently, he is pursuing a Bachelor's of Music Education degree at UNC – Charlotte in the percussion studio under the tutelage of Rick Dior.

While obtaining his Associate’s degree in Arts with Music Concentration from Bucks County Community College, Mr. Bryan was the Assistant Percussion Director at Perkiomen Valley H.S. in Collegeville, PA from 2002-2004.   In the summer of 2004, he was a front ensemble member of the Crossman Drum and Bugle Corp where he had the pleasure of performing in front of thousands at Drum Corp International Finals in Denver Colorado. 

From 2004-2007, Mr. Bryan was the Percussion Director at Timber Creek H.S. in Erial, NJ where the ensembles under his direction received numerous First Place finishes and High Percussion awards in both marching and indoor percussion, including First Place at the 2005 & 2006 TIA Chapter 1 Championships and First Place at the 2005 M.A.P.S. Championships for Scholastic A class.

In addition to his studious pursuits and work with Concord High, Mr. Bryan is the Percussion Ensemble Director at the Charlotte Latin School and gives private lessons.  When he’s not playing, practicing, or teaching music he enjoys spending time relaxing on Lake Norman and going to concerts.

Adam Stewart - Low Brass

Adam is a Music Education major at Western Carolina University.  A four-year member of East Rowan H.S. bands under the direction of Mr. Morin, Adam has marched with WCU's "Pride of the Mountains" marching band for the last two seasons.  He is a N.C. Teaching Fellow, Baritone Section Leader, and President of WCU's chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, a music fraternity.

Chris Cox – Upper Woodwinds

Chris is a Music Performance major at Western Carolina University. He marched four years in the Eastern Randolph H.S. band under the direction of Mr. Luke Brown. He has marched the past two years with WCU’s “Pride of the Mountains” marching band and is the V.P for the Western Carolina Flute Society.

Renee Morin

From the moment her father took her to watch the Bands of America Finals in 1984, Renee has been a certified marching geek! A native of Indianapolis, Indiana, Renee first started marching in 8th grade with her high school’s marching band at the Indianapolis 500 Ceremonies and was the trumpet section leader all 4 years of high school.  In college, Renee was privileged to march for five seasons with the 300-member Indiana University Marching Hundred where she served as Music Librarian, Band Department Staff, Undergraduate Staff, and performed at the 1993 Independence Bowl.  

After college, she moved to North Carolina in a quest for milder winters.  Renee was the Marching Technician/Visual Designer at East Rowan High School from 2004-2008 and is the Marching Instructor at Central Cabarrus High School for 2009.  Outside of band, Renee is a Multi-Million Dollar producer with Wilkinson & Associates Real Estate.
