About Our Director, Mr. Doug Morin
Mr. Morin has led the band program at Concord High since August of 2008. Originally from Indiana, Mr. Morin has been a North Carolina resident and teacher since 2001. He is an educator, a musician, and a competitor…in that order.
After receiving his Bachelor of Music Education from the Indiana University School of Music in 2001, he promptly moved to North Carolina as the Assistant Band/Orchestra Director at Western Harnett High School in Lillington, NC. From 2003-2008, he served as the band director at East Rowan High School in Salisbury, NC.
During his tenure at East Rowan, the number of band participants nearly doubled, both in concert bands and marching band. The marching band grew from a Class A band in 2003 to a Class AAAA in 2007 and received seven Superior ratings in 2007. In addition, Mr. Morin started a Jazz Band that received Excellent ratings at the UNCC Jazz Festival in 2006 & 2007, and established a Winterguard that won its class at the CIPA Championships after only three years in existence.
Mr. Morin has served as guest conductor for the Piedmont Primetime Community Band based in Kannapolis, NC, the Rowan County All-County Honor Band, and the Greenwood (IN) Community Band. He has also performed with various ensembles, including the University of North Carolina at Charlotte Symphonic Band, Pfeiffer University Wind Ensemble, and the Piedmont Primetime Community Band.
He is a member of the Music Educator’s National Conference, the North Carolina Music Educator’s Association, and the South Central District of the North Carolina Bandmaster’s Association.
Mr. Morin resides in Harrisburg, NC with his wife, Renee, who is a real estate agent and a trumpet player.
